In its first team competition, the Dojo had a fantastic outing.
The race started at about 10:30 am in light winds and 38 degree temps. PJ led off for the co-ed team, I led off for the men's squad. We worked off each other for most of the opening leg (read: PJ dragged me along for almost the entire stretch). I knew the leg was 9.2 miles, so around the 9 mile mark, I sucked it up for a final push. That would have been great, except the leg was actually 9.7 miles. PJ cruised in with the lead, and I handed off a few seconds behind.
Sarah and Alan had second legs. Both faced a stiff challenge from the Naval Academy open men's team (who sent out a blazing fast runner in the 2nd leg), but ran tough and fast. Reports are that Alan handed off with a few minutes lead over Sarah, and the Dojo was in 2nd and 3rd behind the Naval Academy squad.
Then...anchors Geoff (men's open) Dave (co-ed) blew the competition away, vaulting our squads into first and second overall. The co-ed team took the overall win, with an unofficial 2:38. The open men's team followed close behind in about 2:39.
So a sweep to open the season for the Dojo! Congrats, look forward to the rest of the season.
