Weekend Racing Roundup - June 23-24
Big weekend, with two races, two wins!
Dreaded Druid Hills 10k:
In a few short years, PJ has transformed himself from "not a belly-itcher" baseball pitcher to top flight road racing machine. This weekend marked another milestone, as PJ took home first place in the Dreaded Druid Hills 10k. You've got to admire anyone who jumps in a race that titles it's website "WARNING: This is not a PR course!" While I can't find the finishing time anywhere, I did find this modest post-win interview:
Big congratulations to PJ!
Epic Family 5k:
I spent the weekend down in Orlando, Florida, celebrating the wedding of an old college buddy. Jumped in the Epic Family 5k, hosted by the Orange County Parks and Rec Department, to get a little tempo workout in while waiting for the festivities to begin. Organizers were super-friendly folks, I had a great time. Also managed to take home the win, in about 17:05.

If I am missing anyone's result, please let me know!
A few items of note:
* A couple crucial late scratches from this race, with Pemberton and Pruitt being sidelined. Possible dramatic effect on the large law firm team competition.
* Training with the Dojo must work, because after just a couple weeks with us, Matthew Newman set a 10K PR, bettering his previous best by 15 seconds (set in Bruseels in December 2011).
* Congrats to Henry for winning his age group AND coming in 2nd in the Masters category!!!
* We snagged three of six available "Fastest Attorney" spots, with Julia coming in 3rd for women, and PJ and me taking 3rd and 1st for men.

Comrades Marathon 2013 - Who's In?
Comrades Marathon 2012 was held earlier today. For those that are unfamiliar with Gareth's exploits last year, Comrades is a legendary 56 mile race run between Pietermartizburg and Durban, South Africa, with 18,000 participants.
Anyway, this seems as good a time as any to announce that the Dojo is going to South Africa, en masse, for Comrades Marathon in June 2013. As it stands, we have firm to semi-firm blood oaths from me (Dan), Brian, Alan, and Geoff. Amanda has offered to serve as "chef de mission." And the more the merrier.
Registration opens in September 2013. If you are interested in going, let me know so we can get a group organized.
See you in Durban next June.
